After 30+ years of waiting the time has come!!! Construction has begun on the dam site.
For so many years we have all heard “hopefully this year the project will begin”, well this time it’s really true. On June 10th the contractors began to clear the property to prepare for the newly constructed spillway and dam.
As we have discussed in the past, this project will take a minimum of 6 months to complete. Our dam will be widened from 35 feet to approximately 120 feet, and according to the DEP will be able to accommodate the heavy rains we have seen in this area. With this in mind, hopefully we will be able to look forward to minimal or zero flooding in Lake Forest.
On June 17th, we opened our valve to lower the lake 4 feet so that construction could begin on the spillway. The water will remain at that level through September. Please note this will not hinder our swimming or boating season. For those who live in the coves, you may want to consider placing your boats at the docks for convenience.
On June 24th, there will be a meeting at the Dam site with DEP officials, City of Bridgeport officials and Lake Forest respresentatives. Also at this meeting there will be a ground breaking ceremony to celebrate 30+ years of hard work, waiting, wondering and patience on our part.
Each Wednesday there will be a meeting held at the site (DEP, contractors and LFA) to discuss the progress of the project. The Dam property is off limits at all times during the construction process, only designated individuals will be allowed.
In September after swimming season has come to a close, we will be opening the valve one last time and lowering the lake 10+ feet. This would be a perfect time for property owners on the lake to make any repairs to their walls, docks, etc. The water will remain at this level until the project is completed.
Should anyone have any questions regarding the progress of the project, please feel free to contact:
